Mystical Hope Wisdom Practice Retreat
Time & Location
About the Retreat
Friday, November 5th starting at 4:00 pm through Saturday, November 6th ending at 6:30pm. Pacific Time at St. Mark's In the Valley Episcopal Church in Los Olivos, CA.
We'll explore the teachings from Cynthia Bourgeault on the Imaginal Realm and her important book 'Mystical Hope.' This material will be surrounded with a rhythm of silence, chanting, centering prayer, conscious work, reflection, movement, attention exercises, and sharing from the heart.
“The Characteristics of Mystical Hope…
We might make the following observations about this other kind of hope, which we will call mystical hope. In contrast to our usual notions of hope:
- Mystical hope is not tied to a good outcome, to the future. It lives a life of its own, seemingly without reference to external circumstances and conditions.
- It has something to do with presence - not a future good outcome, but the immediate experience of being met, held in communion, by something intimately at hand.
- It bears fruit within us at the psychological level in the sensations of strength, joy, and satisfaction: an 'unbearable lightness of being.' But mysteriously, rather than deriving these gifts from outward expectations being met, it seems to produce them from within.” Cynthia Bourgeault, Mystical Hope
This Wisdom Practice Retreat is for all those interested in continuing to return to and draw on this other kind of hope, to be this kind of hope, and offer this kind of hope to this weary and frightened world.
Facilitators are Heather Ruce MA and Mary Ann Evans Ph.D, long time wisdom students of Cynthia Bourgeault.
Vaccines are requested and masks encouraged in enclosed spaces.
